Parent Discussion Group a Hit!

June 12, 2008

A Parents Guide to Gifted ChildrenLast February, CGA parents from fifteen families of gifted children registered to participate in a ten-week evening parent discussion group provided by the CGA and held in Coppell. The sessions used the SENG (Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted) program model following A Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children and facilitated by trained program professionals.

This group of parents has said they plan to “stay together” to discuss gifted and other related topics of interest on their own. Some participant comments from the February session follow:

  • “I’ve been pretty involved in my child’s education – this program helped me as a parent more than ANY other event or activity I’ve attended over the past 10 years in Coppell!”
  • “Glad I had this class BEFORE summer began – lots of time to enjoy myintense son now that I understand him a little better.”
  • “Super!!!….Highly recomended! Fantastic attempt to try and understandgifted children and their world. Brimming with ideas, strategies and resources to support giftedness.”
  • “The class and book have been a lifesaver! I can’t say enough good about them and feel that every parent should have the opportunity to be in a gifted parent discussion group!”

CGA is hoping to provide daytime and evening sessions this fall. Watch for details in late July or early August.
