Coppell High School Engineering Expo
November 7, 2010
2:00 – 5:00 at Coppell High School

Coppell High School’s School of Engineering and the CHS Engineering Booster Club are hosting the third annual Coppell Engineering Expo from 2:00 pm until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Coppell High School, 185 W. Parkway Blvd. The event is free to the public. Last year’s Expo attracted over 2000 attendees, and with an impressive line-up of universities, corporations and speakers, this year’s event is expected to be just as exciting.

The Engineering Expo builds awareness and excitement for engineering and technology careers among North Texas high school students. U.S. universities are graduating fewer and fewer engineers each year. It is hoped that this event will help address our country’s growing need for engineering professionals.

CHS student engineers will demonstrate their projects, including a solar car, underwater ROV (remotely operated vehicle), rocketry, robots and more. To promote the Expo, several CHS engineering students will be guests on Fox 4’s Good Day program during the week leading up to the Expo.

Universities from around the country will meet with students about curriculum, admissions and placement. Represented universities include US Air Force Academy, Air Force ROTC, Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Caltech, Columbia, Duke, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kansas, Lawrence Technological University, LSU, Michigan, Michigan St, Missouri Science and Technology, MIT, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Purdue, Richland College, SMU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, University of Dallas, University of North Texas, University of Southern California, US Naval Academy, US Merchant Marines, UT Arlington, UT Austin, Vanderbilt, Washington Univ – St. Louis, and West Point.

Local corporations and organizations involved with engineering will talk with students and Expo attendees about engineering careers, career paths, training, hiring, and more. Attending are AT&T, Bell Helicopter, Dunaway Associates, General Motors, Teradata, ExxonMobil, IBM, Sikorsky, Southwest Airlines, Texas Instruments, Coppell Gifted Association, Society of Women Engineers, Texas Society of Automotive Engineers International and others.

The featured guest speaker is Russ Blink from Armadillo Aerospace, a Texas-based leading developer of reusable rocket powered vehicles.

Attendees purchasing raffle tickets will have an opportunity to win a one-hour simulator ride for two donated by Southwest Airlines, a $50 gift certificate from J. Macklin’s Grill, an iPad, an iPod Touch and an iPod Dock. AT&T will be giving away an iPhone to a lucky winner. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.

This event is perfect for: (1) high school students who would like to meet representatives from quality universities from across the country; (2) middle school students interested in technology and engineering; (3) college students who would like to meet practicing engineers and learn more about career opportunities; (4) and anyone interested in a fun afternoon of fascinating speakers, good food and intriguing technology exhibits.

Finally, the program is about building excitement and passion for technology and engineering.
