FREE Webinar Series from UC Irvine
Does everyone remember Barbara Geller, one of our founding members? She is starting a new gifted parenting organization in Gallatin Valley, Montana and is developing her own website. While she was in Coppell, Barbara advised parents on college admissions, differentiation, advanced placement, and the impact on the gifted in No Child Left Behind, just to name a few. In her unofficial position as our Montana correspondent, she sent us some information to share regarding a FREE webinar series.

If you strive for a better understanding of the needs and capabilities of today’s gifted and talented students, you won’t want to miss this series!
* Finding Creativity in the Micromoments
Wednesday, February 2, 2011 8:00-9:00 p.m. PT
Although most efforts aimed at identifying and nurturing creative potential rely on creativity enhancement programs or curricula; this webinar will demonstrate how the brief, everyday moments of the classroom are actually defining moments when it comes to identifying and nurturing (rather than missing or suppressing) creative potential in K-12 classrooms. Implications for teaching and parenting will also be discussed.
* Parenting a Gifted Child: Common Dilemmas and Practical Solutions
Wednesday, February 9, 2011 8:00-9:00 p.m. PT
Some discussion items will be underachievement, perfectionism, heightened sensitivities and creative talent. Emphasis will also be placed on developing positive, proactive relationships with site administrators and teachers.
* Enriching the WHOLE Gifted Child
Wednesday, February 16, 2011 8:00-9:00 p.m. PT
In our current standards-based world, it has become even more critical for teachers and parents to enrich GATE students in a holistic manner. This webinar will provide ideas on how to increase the level of rigor and relevance in your student’s daily learning activities. Beyond the academics, participants will learn how to identify students’ multiple intelligences and receive resources to help students organize their thoughts, become intellectually responsible, and learn how to meet their social and emotional needs.
* Collaborative Learning with Wikis
Wednesday, February 23, 2011 8:00-9:00 p.m. PT
This webinar will highlight the various ways teachers can use wikis to foster collaboration in heterogeneous classes. The integration of wikis into the curriculum supports the acquisition of 21st century skills. Specific lessons on differentiation as well as the use of Thinking Tools and Think Like a Disciplinarian will be included.
