Your Child Left Behind

February 9, 2011

For years, poor performance by students in America relative to those in other countries has been explained away as a consequence of our nationwide diversity. But what if you looked more closely, breaking down our results by state and searching not for an average, but for excellence?

Interesting article by Amanda Ripley at the Atlantic Magazine — she looks at the latest research by Stanford Economist Eric Hanushek as he breaks down the information to compares the performance of the best and brightest in individual states to foreign countries. Any ideas which state came up on top? Hint: it wasn’t Texas.

Read more about this study and the results at: Your Child Left Behind in the December issue of the Atlantic Magazine.
