UTD Chess Camp

April 21, 2011

Make the right move for your child (age 7-13) this summer! Chess develops your child’s reading and math ability, critical and analytical thinking skills, and builds character and self-esteem. But don’t tell the kids…they think chess is fun!

UT Dallas Chess Camp instructors include top-ranked and internationally recognized winners of various collegiate chess tournaments. Camp tuition includes a souvenir T-shirt, a chess board and pieces, trophy, certificate, score book and group photo (snacks and drinks are also provided). Classes are grouped by ability, age, experience and instructor assessment. Classes are small and have a low student-to-teacher ratio.

Camp groups include:

  • Beginners, who master the basic rules and fundamentals of chess
  • Intermediate players, who build on basic chess knowledge with key strategies and ideas
  • Advanced players, who sharpen their competitive edge with advanced strategies for tournament play

Choose the session that fits your child’s schedule: morning sessions are from 9 a.m. – noon, and afternoon sessions are from 1 – 4 p.m.

Enroll your child for multiple weeks and watch their chess skills improve over the summer.

UT Dallas also offers an Absolute Beginners Class (ABC) for adults with little or no chess knowledge. In addition to learning the basics, adults will learn how to organize scholastic chess clubs and participate in tournaments.

Dr. Alexey Root (who you recognize from teaching during our summer and school year MOSAIC program) will be teaching at the UTD Chess Camp during the June 6-10 and June 13-17 weeks.
