Interview Competition Judges Needed for Academic Decathalon

December 20, 2012

Please consider serving as an adult judge for the Interview Competition for the 2013 Academic Decathlon (AcDec) at Frisco Centennial High School on Friday, January 25th from 2:30-9:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to see our high school learners in action after months of research, practice, and study. Coppell High School sends learners to this event each year and as a participating district, we are asked to provide at least 54 judges for the Interview Competition. We cannot reach this number of volunteers without your help!

AcDec experience and prior knowledge are not needed because training will be provided for everyone. All interview judges will begin training at 2:30pm, and the judging competition will occur from 4-9pm. Dinner, drinks and snacks will be provided as a small token of your time.

What is Academic Decathlon?

The Academic Decathlon is designed to include students from all academic backgrounds. Each nine-member team consists of three A students, three B students and three C students. In addition to a seven-minute interview, a one-hour essay and two speeches (four minutes prepared and two minutes impromptu), written comprehensive exams are given in music, art, language/literature, mathematics, economics, (social) science, and the Super Quiz. The final event is the Super Quiz relay. All students assemble in a gymnasium setting as one student from each school reports to the floor to be tested. Five questions are asked of this group of students. Then, a second wave of students participate, then a third, and so on until nine rounds are completed (three A, three B, and three C rounds). As answers are given and scores change, the students get excited and cheer for all out academic effort.
