Creative writing update…

February 1, 2013

We are finalizing the results of the 2012-13 Creative Writing Competition.  We had over 300 entries and 20 judges to evaluate… reading and evaluating all those stories and poems takes time.

There are still a few more judges that are finishing up, and a few tie-breakers that need to be resolved.  We have asked Jill Haltom, the CISD Director of Language Arts, to pick the winner when a tie occurs.

Each entry has been reviewed by at least 3 judges.  Many of the judges were compelled to pass along comments to the authors.  These comments, if provided, will appear on your competition certificates.  Each finalist, either 1st place or Honorable Mention, will receive a certificate of accomplishment.  Students is elementary school will also receive a participation certificate.

Finalists, both 1st Place and Honorable Mention, will appear in a book to be published in the next few months.  Finalists will need their parents to provide permission before an entry can be published in the book.  We will be contacting parents via email once the results are published.  Please watch for details about ordering books and the date of the book release party.

Curious about who receives 1st Place and Honorable Mention?  Judges are asked to rank the entries.  The entry that receives the highest overall ranking in each category will be declared the 1st Place winner.  Any entry that receives a 1, 2 or 3 ranking from any judge will receive Honorable Mention.  Our judges bring their unique opinions and style to the evaluation — which is why many categories have more than 3 finalists.

Please be patient while we finish the results.  We will post everything as soon as we can.
