Proposed Changes to the
BYLAWS of COPPELL GIFTED ASSOCIATION
to be voted on May 5, 2009 at 7pm (CHS lecture hall)
ARTICLE III – MEMBERSHIP
Section 3.2 – Benefits of Membership.
Current: “Members will have an opportunity to:”
Proposed: “CGA may have an opportunity to:”
Current: “F. Receive a directory of other CISD parents of gifted and talented students; and”
Proposed: remove completely
Current: “G. Find out changes being considered for the G/T curriculum and be able to voice opinions on these possible changes before they are implemented.”
Proposed: “G. Inform members about changes being considered for the G/T curriculum.”
ARTICLE IV – DUES
Current: “Annual membership dues and due date therefore shall be determined by the Executive Board. One membership includes two parents (or guardians). Any change in the dues shall be set by the Executive board and be approved by the membership at regular meetings. In the event the changed amount set by the Executive Board for any year is not approved, the dues shall be the same as those last approved by the membership.”

ARTICLE V – OFFICERS
Section 5.2 – Term.
Current: “Term of office shall be August 1 through July 31 of each year.”
Proposed: “Term of office shall be June 1 through May 31 of each year with the exception of Treasurer whose term shall be August 1 through July 31 of each year.”
ARTICLE VI – DUTIES OF OFFICERS
Section 6.6 – The Newsletter officer shall:
Current: “B. Maintain an up-to-date mailing list for CGA;”
Proposed: move to 6.7-Membership officer

Section 6.7 – The Membership officer shall:
Current: “B. Maintain current membership roster or database;”
Proposed: “B. Maintain current membership roster or database and an up-to-date electronic mailing list for CGA;”
ARTICLE VIII – ELECTIONS
Section 8.3 – Voting.
Current: “Election shall be by ballot at the May membership meeting at which the slate of officers will be presented, at which time additional nominees may be nominated from the floor providing consent of the nominee is obtained at that time.”
Proposed: “Election shall be by ballot or show of hands at the last membership meeting of the school year at which the slate of officers will be presented, at which time additional nominees may be nominated from the floor providing consent of the nominee is obtained at that time.”
